Our Community

Giving every child every opportunity.

P&C

West Leederville Primary School enjoys a strong parent and community involvement, which is facilitated through an active and productive group of parents representing the WLPS Parents and Citizens Association (P&C). ANYONE can join the P&C and we welcome new members – it’s never too early or too late in your child’s time at WLPS to get involved!

Our activities can be summarised in the following short sections however more detailed information can always be sought by contacting one of our P&C members or subscribing to the P&C Newsletter.

WLPS P&C Funding
Your P&C pays for equipment and programs that otherwise would not be covered in the school’s budget. This includes significant funds for the purchase of playground equipment, special educational programs and many other resources. As parents, the P&C members recognise that these additional programs and resources enhance your child’s early learning outcomes and will contribute to their academic and social accomplishments – both in the short and long term.

WLPS Community
Your WLPS P&C hosts events to both fundraise and to contribute to our local community. These include Quiz Nights, Student Disco’s, WLPS Fete, Movie Nights and class parent get togethers to name but a few. We are incredibly lucky to have such a close-knit local community and the P&C plays a vital role in maintaining strong community relationships. Joining the P&C is one of the best ways in which parents can demonstrate and uphold the WLPS values that we as a community identify so strongly with.

When parents are inclusive, enthusiastic and engaged with their school, so too are their children. The P&C is also a great way for new families to make connections and build support networks. You can be as more or less involved as you’d like to be; we welcome all, whatever capacity they show up in.

All parents, guardians and members of the community are welcome to attend P&C meetings. The meetings are held on Weeks 3 & 8 of each Term in the WLPS Library, commencing at 7.00pm. We also have an option for those who are not able to make it in person.

We strongly recommend following our newsletter to avoid missing out any awesome events.

FOWLS

Building Stronger Bonds Between Dads and Kids

The Fathers of West Leederville (FOWLs) is our school dads group, proudly established in 2018 in partnership with The Fathering Project. Since then, FOWLs has been helping dads connect more deeply with their children and with each other.

At the heart of FOWLs is a simple but powerful belief: children benefit greatly when fathers and father figures are positively involved in their lives. Whether it’s through shared activities, casual chats, or moments of reflection, our aim is to create meaningful opportunities for dads to be present, engaged, and supportive.

Our Mission
Encourage dads to spend quality time with their children
Foster stronger school and community connections
Support dads in their own physical, mental, and social wellbeing
Provide a relaxed, welcoming space for fathers to connect

What We Do
FOWLs organises a range of fun, family-friendly activities throughout the year, including:
Kayaking at Matilda Bay
Dads & Daughters Hair Workshops
Weekend Camping Trips
Walk to School with Dad Days
Paper Plane Competitions
Remote Control Car Racing

We also run regular dad catchups that help build mateship and support men’s wellbeing:

FOWLs Footy – Casual Thursday evening footy at Subiaco Oval, followed by a chat and a drink

Friday Morning Run & Swim Club – Start the day right at City Beach, followed by a coffee

Tuesday evening run club – A midweek motivation boost
These gatherings are not just about fitness – they’re about friendship, support, and showing up as positive role models for our kids.

Why It Matters
Backed by research from The Fathering Project, the benefits of engaged fathering are significant:

For Children:
Stronger emotional wellbeing and resilience
Better academic outcomes
Improved social skills and relationships
Reduced risk of harmful behaviours

For Fathers:
Improved mental health and reduced stress
Deeper family connections
Greater life satisfaction and a sense of purpose
When dads are active and connected, the ripple effects are felt across the family, the school, and the wider community.

Our Community Impact
Beyond school walls, FOWLs supports wider community initiatives. Most recently, we proudly sponsored the Wembley Football Club’s All Abilities Team – helping make inclusive sport possible and promoting positive role modelling in action.

Join Us
FOWLs is always open to new dads and father figures in our school community. Whether you’re looking to get involved in events, join a footy game, or simply meet other dads for a chat, there’s a place for you here.

Together, we’re building a community of connection, care, and positive fathering – one moment, one dad, and one child at a time.

Canteen

Our Canteen is proudly owned and operated by the WLPS P&C Assoc.
Our canteen staff work hard to ensure that our menu is accessible and desirable for all. We also rely heavily on parent volunteers to help operations run smoothly (especially on Fridays!) This is a great way to contribute to your school community, meet other parents and see the excitement on your child’s face when they see you in the canteen servery at recess and lunch.

Frequently Asked Questions

About the Code Camp Australia out of school hours program

For our Year 2 to Year 6 students, After-School Code Camp allows kids to hone their coding skills and keep practising through weekly sessions over the term. Students will produce multiple games and apps using our exciting online platform Code Camp World. We have made Code Camp World as accessible as possible so students can truly focus on the fun aspects of coding and carry on their journey at home. Each week students will choose the features they want to build, and advance their problem-solving skills to build these features using code. They will take ownership over their projects and collaborate with their peers to make awesome apps!
